Howdy all,
Well today was quite exhausting so my post may be much shorter than usual! Also, there are no photos to share unfortunately as I spent most of the day reading and trying not to fall over!
That's right, it was a rough day shipboard. We have a wind advisory and the swells have picked up somewhat. Ironically, it was a beautiful clear blue day with a teal blue ocean. Being that the Wecoma is so long and narrow, we spent most of the day rolling from side to side, sending a few of us into general malaise (read: sea sick). This included my poor roommate Anne who has been pulling ridiculously long hours to top things off! Luckily I wasn't stricken besides a bit of a headache, which was fixed by ibuprofen. Who would have known this Wyoming girl had sea legs?
However, I did spend a fair part of the day trying not to walk into things or people. I felt like I was in the Smooth Criminal video (I'd like to thank the late Michael Jackson for that visual reference).
Because I spent much of the day safely in my chair in the wet lab, sadly I don't have any of my own photos to share. We weren't even allowed on deck without permission from the bridge first. In fact, our stations were 5 hours apart so there really wasn't any reason to be on deck- I only had one collection today, before the waves picked up.
Hopefully I can get some good photos tomorrow, weather and sea permitting. On the plus side, there was lots of general socialization and I got a lot of reading done. I am meeting lots of really fun people on board, and am amazed at how well everyone- crew and scientists- get along. Most of our chatting is at mealtime, and sometimes it's hard to remember to get back to work!
So yes, a fairly uneventful (but not bad) day. I even got to do some laundry and wash all of the salt off my clothes- a definite bonus.
I apologize for the rather unexciting update today. However, I guess EVERY day can't be thrill-packed :)
Time for this voyager to get some sleep. Thanks for reading!
Shea
